Microsoft AI Tour Zurich 2026: What We Took Away From It
AI is no longer just a pilot project. That was the clear message from the Microsoft AI Tour, which took place on April 29 and—specifically for partners—at a separate event on May 5, 2026, in Zurich, and which left a lasting impression on our team.
Numerous experts, decision-makers, and Microsoft partners gathered to witness how artificial intelligence in Switzerland is making the transition from the experimental phase to full-scale deployment. We were on-site at both events—and have brought back some of the key insights.

From Theory to Practice: AI Becomes an Operational Reality
Catrin Hinkel, CEO, and Andrew Reid, Global Partner Solutions Director at Microsoft Switzerland, kicked off the event with a clear message: AI only delivers real value when leaders actively make decisions—about where to deploy AI, where human judgment remains indispensable, and how the two work together. It’s not about waiting for perfection, but about taking informed action.
This is consistent with what we’re seeing among our customers: The question is no longer whether to use AI, but how— and as quickly, securely, and scalably as possible.
Three topics that dominated the news
1. Frontier Transformation Instead of Isolated Solutions
Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft’s Commercial Business, described what distinguishes a true AI transformation from isolated improvements: It involves a fundamental realignment of processes, data structures, and decision-making pathways—with AI as a central element, not just an add-on.
2. Digital sovereignty as a strategic priority
A separate keynote session focused on an issue of particular concern to Swiss companies: Who controls the data and infrastructure when AI is integrated into core operations? Microsoft provided clear answers to this question—and, with its announced $400 million investment in Swiss data centers, demonstrated that data sovereignty and scalability are not mutually exclusive.
3. AI Skills as a Competitive Advantage
Microsoft has confirmed its goal of equipping one million people in Switzerland with AI skills by 2027—over 500,000 have already been trained. This makes it clear: the technology is here; empowering people is the crucial next step.
What this means for Swiss SMEs
The Microsoft AI Tour wasn't just a high-profile event for large corporations. Many of the use cases showcased—from automated workflows to intelligent assistants in Microsoft 365—are already available and implementable for small and medium-sized businesses today.
As a Microsoft Solution Partner with all six Solution Partner designations, we are uniquely positioned to support companies through this very process: from the initial Copilot pilot to the end-to-end integration of AI into existing IT environments.
Our conclusion
The AI Tour has shown that now is the time to get serious about AI—not in two years. Those who set the right course today will secure a clear competitive edge.
